Jenna's Journey

Hi, I’m Jenna. I’m 12 years old and last year I went in for a checkup and my pediatrician suggested I go see an orthopedic doctor because my back looked uneven. I got x-rays and the doctor explained how my spine was curving sideways.  He said I have scoliosis.

Now I wear a Boston brace, which covers my body from just below my chest to my hips. It’s not the most fashionable thing to wear, but it’s supposed to help stop my spine from curving more. I have to wear it for about 18 hours every day, which can be tough, especially during hot summer days or when I’m trying to sleep. But I know it’s important, so I try to stay positive about it.

At first, I felt self-conscious about wearing the brace, especially when I was at school or hanging out with friends. But now I don't hide it under my clothes anymore and have embraced that scoliosis is part of who I am and I don't need to hide it. I’m blesseed to have very supportive friends and family that cheer me on every day.

Scoliosis is part of who I am, but it's not the boss of me!  I love doing arts and crafts. Drawing, painting, you name it! I also enjoy reading stories, making TikTok videos and spending time outdoors, exploring new places with my family.

 Thanks for reading! Byyyyeee
